With the advent of CoS (Class of Service), you can prioritize your traffic into separate classes, such as: #1 “REAL TIME” for high sensitivity to jitter/latency like VoIP and Citrix applications. #2 “CRITICAL” for slightly higher toleration of latency, which perhaps Video might be an example. #3 “PRIORITY” which needs some special treatment like Databases. And finally #4 “STANDARD” for email and web browsing.If you’re thinking about replacing your old WAN infrastructure, consider an MPLS solution and research the following if/when you make the switch:Look for a carrier with a large nationwide footprint. Especially one that includes Network-to-Network Interfaces (NNIs), which establish arrangements with IXCs in order to expand the carrier’s service outside their basic footprint. Pricing is based on loop, port, and CoS. Look for a flat rate CoS charge, meaning no additional surcharge for each higher Class of Service priority. A fully managed solution where the carrier provides all configuration, deployment, monitoring, and CPE/router at each location- is helpful in keeping IT administrative costs low.
